Two guidelines for Zero Emission Construction Sites
Guidelines for Zero Emission Construction Sites in Oslo, for Building Construction and for Infrastructure and Road Construction.
The City of Oslo is initially focusing on tackling emissions from municipal construction projects, which represent roughly 20% of the city's construction market. As a first step, these municipal projects have used sustainable biofuels since 2017, reducing Oslo's total construction sector emissions by close to 20%.
In Oslo, construction is responsible for 7% of the city's total emissions, even without accounting for emissions from the transport of people and goods to and from construction sites. Construction also contributes significantly to local air and noise pollution.
In 2019, Oslo published common tender criteria for all municipal construction projects that specify the 2017 procurement strategy's requirements for clean construction technology in detail. At minimum, all projects are required to use construction machinery and vehicles which run on sustainable biofuels or biogas.
The dream that is already a reality In Oslo Silent and sustainable, the Norwegian capital's municipal construction sites are the first in the world to aim for zero emissions.
